Thinking about a nose job? Here’s some info to help you decide!
What is it?
Nose plastic surgery, also called rhinoplasty, is a surgery to change the shape or size of your nose. It can fix bumps, make your nose bigger or smaller, or straighten a crooked nose.
Why get it done?
There are two main reasons to get rhinoplasty:
- Look: Some people want to change the way their nose looks to feel better about their face.
- Breathe: Sometimes, a crooked nose or bump can make it hard to breathe. Rhinoplasty can fix this problem.
What happens during surgery?
There are two main ways to do rhinoplasty:
- Closed: Cuts are made inside your nostrils, so there are no scars on the outside of your nose.
- Open: A small cut is made on the skin between your nostrils, along with cuts inside your nose. This lets the surgeon see more and make more changes.
The surgery usually takes a few hours and is done in a hospital or surgery center.
What happens after surgery?
Your nose will be swollen and bruised for a while after surgery. You’ll wear a cast or splint for a week or two to protect your nose. It can take a few months for your nose to heal completely and see the final results.
Things to think about:
- Risks: Like any surgery, rhinoplasty has risks, such as infection, bleeding, and numbness. There’s also a chance the surgery won’t turn out exactly how you want it.
- Cost: Rhinoplasty can be expensive. Insurance usually doesn’t cover it unless it’s done to fix a breathing problem.
- Finding a doctor: It’s important to find a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience with rhinoplasty.
Is it right for you?
Only you can decide if nose plastic surgery is right for you. If you’re considering it, talk to a doctor about your options and what to expect.
